A leader in industrial and manufacturing automated material handling solutions is hiring a Systems Engineer to provide exemplary skills with coordinating the engineering and technical aspects of projects including product and solution research, costing, engineering development, problem-solving, and model designing. Adapt, alter, or improve existing engineering and design models when necessary. Provide technical support to the Sales, Software, Installation, and Engineering teams.

The Automation Systems Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Design and develop automated systems and layouts that integrate material handling equipment and automated systems into a factory, industrial or warehouse environment.
  • Understanding of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV), and other material movement and handling manufacturing and warehouse related material handling systems.
  • Understanding of Warehouse Management/Control Software systems and how they relate to the Automated Material Handling systems.
  • Redesign and upgrade existing material handling systems and subsets to fulfill customer needs and requirements.
  • Support Sales and Engineering by visiting customer sites, collecting customer material handling data, understanding client’s operation flow and throughput, and data analysis for system design and layouts.
  • Experience with Project design/tracking software systems such as Microsoft Project (MS Project).
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management systems (CRM). Track and log all Engineering and design duties in the Salesforce.
  • Develop RFQs in conjunction with the Sales and Procurement departments
  • Develop associated project related costs and budgets from initial stages through final quotations.
  • Present, review, and revise system options and pricing with/to Sales.
  • Coordinate engineering design between Electrical and software teams in the US and Japan.
  • Collaborate with the Software and Installation teams during development stage to ensure that material handling systems function properly and are installed per customer requires.
  • Review and approve drawings and functional specifications in association with material handling projects and working scope.
  • Functional knowledge of various software platforms related to industrial automation and material handling equipment.
  • Travels domestically and internationally for confirmation of layout, specifications, commissioning, and equipment inspection/run-off.
  • Provides site support for system run-off as required for project implementation.

The Automation Systems Engineer will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree, BSME, BSMFG, or BSIE
  • 5-10 years in design, implementation, commissioning of AS/RS systems or material handling experience
  • 3+ years of design and control of system conveyor systems in a manufacturing, industrial and warehouse environment that supply and support Automated Material Handling Systems preferred.
  • 5+ year’s experience using AutoCAD (latest version) as it relates to system design and simulation engineering design software solutions is a plus.
  • Ability to create, read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, blueprints, schematic diagrams, and technical drawings. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Japanese language skills considered a plus.
  • Ability to analyze complex data sets. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, furnished in written or oral form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Must be self-starter and self-motivated, flexible, and adaptive to the changes within the projects.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems with a sense of urgency.
  • Perform under pressure of customer and complete tasks under tight timeline.
  • Travel domestically and internationally for confirmation of layout, specifications, and equipment inspection/run-off.
