Role Summary
Responsible for cutting and permanently joining metal parts together through the application of appropriate welding techniques. Ensuring components meet customer’s quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates proper welding knowledge in MIG and MIG braze as well as the use of power tools.
- To work in a safe, quality minded, and productive manner with a sense of urgency to attain production priorities as scheduled.
- Attend daily pre-shift meetings and carry out assigned workload as directed by shift/area leaders.
- Must be willing to make decisions, understand quality issues, pay attention to details to ensure parts are assembled correctly.
- Monitor equipment operation to ensure temperature conditions are optimal. Should be able to care for and maintain equipment in good working order. Understand when it is not working properly.
- Perform minor repairs/adjustments to MIG welders.
- Maintain the integrity of weld quality to ensure the finished product meets MEVS Automotive Systems standards.
- Maintain proper documentation of scrap and rework products.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures established for each work station.
- Maintain the integrity of quality to ensure finished product meets MEVS Automotive Systems standards, to include the changing of weld tips, wire spools, and cleaning of nozzles to ensure the efficiency of weld robots.
- Maintain proper documentation of production.
- Responsible for visual inspection (and repairs if needed) of all welds and weld quality.
- Test and inspect welded surfaces to identify and fix possible flaws.
- Operate grinders and scrapers to prepare metal surfaces for welding operations.
- Encourage safety and housekeeping practices and lead by example. Follows and supports MEVS Automotive Systems and Magna’s operating principles including:

- Perform weld repair as needed in a safe manner while meeting quality requirements.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- Required to pass welding competency tests.
- Must have some OSHA knowledge (safety requirements.)
- Skills in MIG, ARC, and TIG welding and plasma cutting.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and other powered equipment.
Additional Information
- Some of the physical demands of this position include sitting for prolonged periods of time, walking up and down staircases, occasional lifting, and occasional stooping and bending
- Must be able to perform physical activities, such as but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 40 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking.
- Ability to perform welding operations under extreme conditions.
