JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for designing, assembling and evaluating electro-mechanical assemblies as directed in written or schematic form by Electrical or Mechanical Engineers. This includes soldering PCAs, mechanical assembly, building and crimping wire harnesses. Performs physical, electrical and/or environmental testing on prototype assemblies. Responsible for test fixture design and construction and working with stakeholders to make sure the test fixture meets company needs. Writes test procedures for vendors to perform production testing. Provides technical guidance to staff with complex problems.  Maintains and cares for common engineering equipment and tools. Assists in engineering research and documentation as needed.

KEY COMPONENTS:

  • 5+ Years’ experience soldering surface mount components and general rework of Digital/Analog/RF boards
  • Ability to makes cables and wiring harnesses
  • Must Have Excellent Fine Soldering skills
  • Testing of product/PCAs to test plans generated by engineers and documenting test results
  • Experience ordering components for PCB fab and assembly
  • Kitting of components for PCB assembly
  • Proven experience as Lab Technician or relevant position
  • Programming experience with C/C++/C# and/or willing to learn a plus!!!

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Create and perform tests on electro-mechanical components and assemblies.
  2. Design, fabricate, test and debug breadboards and models for new or modified products.
  3. Solder through-hole and basic surface mount components needed for design verification, troubleshooting and repair.
  4. Design and fabricate test fixtures and write and modify basic test procedures for all phases of development and production.
  5. Create reports for test results.
  6. Select, test and evaluate newly sourced components.
  7. Validate manufacturer and vendor specifications for components and devices.
  8. Able to propose and implement approved modifications to existing designs.
  9. Conduct failure analysis for non-conforming components either in development or production.
  10. Provide repair and recovery processes for non-conforming components in production.
  11. Research and modify calibration and assembly procedures with MSWord and MSExcel to reflect approved changes.
  12. Research assembly drawings prepare markup for approved changes.
  13. Research bill of materials and prepare markup for approved changes.
  14. Preferred- Prepare markup and implement changes to schematics designs using “Altium Designer”
  15. Preferred- Design and write software for testing and validation of assemblies in test utilizing a variety of languages and platforms. (i.e. MSWindows, MS Excel, BASIC and 3rd party applications)
  16. Responsible for assigned design activities and deadlines as defined in the project statement of work.
  17. Create and maintain Engineering records of all major revisions to electro-mechanical assemblies and key parts.
  18. Liaison to assembly houses to insure correct assembly and testing of product and components.
  19. Maintain, in good order, all test and calibration equipment including tools, leads, engineering stock and test benches.
  20. Performs all other duties as assigned and approved by the Engineering Manager/Project Engineer.


QUALIFICATIONS:

SKILLS:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Works independently with minimal supervision or direction
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong record keeping skills
  • Ability to solder fine pitch electronics circuits – replacing components, making circuit modifications, building prototypes, repairing circuits, etc.
  • Understand wiring diagrams, schematics, assembly drawings, fab drawings, and mechanical component drawings
  • Strong electro-mechanical laboratory and troubleshooting skills
  • Strong knowledge of electronic components and instruments (Oscilliscope, DMM, etc).
  • Preferred- Ability to install and operate with 3rd party PC control applications (Arduino, IC programmers etc)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, macro languages for MSExcel and MSWord
  • Preferred- Working knowledge of programming languages such as:

C, C+, C#, Microsoft Windows APIs, MSVisual Basic

  • Preferred- Working knowledge of PC Applications: Altium (Schematic), MS Visual Studio

EXPERIENCE: 7+ years’ experience as an Engineering Technician.

EDUCATION: Preferred - 2+ years vocational or equivalent technical school education.
