Snelling is looking for a skilled candidate for a Direct Hire opportunity for a General Ledger Accountant for a busy Grand Rapids travel agency.
Annual Salary: $48,000 - 58,000
JOB DESCRIPTION
The General Ledger Accountant manages the day-to-day operations of Payroll, General Ledger, and Vacation/Retail Accounting areas. This position is full-time (Monday-Friday) in the office, and reports to the Accounting/Human Resources Manager. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an associate degree in accounting with at least 5 years of direct general ledger accounting experience within a company or organization.

General Ledger
- Prepare, calculate, and record month end journal entries
- Calculation of monthly revenue for Group Department
- Calculation of Cost of Sales for Group Department
- Ongoing analysis/review/reconciliation of general ledger accounts & make necessary adjustments
- Assist Accounting Manager with month end processes to assure accurate monthly financial statements
- Assist with year end review and prepare workpapers for external CPA’s
Bank Transactions
- Record assigned bank transactions into Globalware by end of month using correct GL account number
- Post retail/vacation customer payments into Globalware
- Post rent payments – notify manager if tenants are late or behind in payments
- Develop thorough understanding of Dominion Systems (platform used for processing payroll), Work with Dominion Services on any processing/software issues
- Bi-weekly payroll processing
- Work with employees on any timekeeping issues, tax forms, deduction changes, direct deposit, etc.
- Prepare workflow instructions on payroll process for purposes of cross training
- Review quarterly tax reports for accuracy
- Ensure accuracy of W-2 information at year end
- Record payroll journal entries into Globalware
Company Credit Cards
- Download monthly credit card statements to Excel/CSV and review for valid charges
- Organize receipts/documentation received from cardholders for charges made
- Assign general ledger account number to each credit card transaction
- Import spreadsheet to Globalware
Vacation/Retail Department Accounting
- Develop thorough knowledge of Globalware and Client Base to understand all aspects of accounting processes
- Work with retail travel agents on any invoice questions/issues/concerns
- Monitor Accounts Receivable and work with travel agents on customer issues
- Commission Tracking – research commission payments & recalls when needed and post to Globalware
- Review Commission Receivable account frequently to assure commissions are being received
- Prepare monthly commission report for travel agents in Vacation/Retail department
- Run ClientBase Interface daily
- Assign/Create provider ID numbers as requested by vacation department
- Prepare Gift Certificates as requested and maintain gift certificate tracking spreadsheet
- Process credit card payments weekly for vacation service fees and post to Globalware
- Incident report tracking & Provide reports as requested
Miscellaneous
- CICW Monthly & Intermittent Billing
- Backup for ARC Reconciliation
- Be right hand person to Accounting Manager
- Identify process improvements
- Reconciliation of monthly merchant statements to bank
- Assign account IDs as requested
- Oversees the maintenance of the IATAN list for the company
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Minimum of Associates Degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 5 years working in an Accounting Department and involvement with month end processing, general ledger account analysis and reconciliations
- Solid working knowledge of Excel and Outlook
- Strong analytical skills
- Detail oriented, accurate and organized
- Creative problem-solving skills with a can-do attitude and strong work ethic
- Interest in rolling up the sleeves, digging into research various issues, not afraid to ask questions, be persistent in learning and owning the job
- Ability to multitask, set priorities independently, demonstrate a sense of urgency in tight timelines and manage time effectively
