Position Summary
Working in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment, with close liaison with engineering, R&D, quality, sales, and finance team members, the Senior Buyer is responsible for purchasing major cost commodities and component parts at the most favorable cost and terms consistent with the company’s standards of quality and production schedules.
The position requires significant analytical, organizational, Project Management, and negotiation skills. A full-time position reporting to the Purchasing Manager. Travel required occasionally.
Key Functions & Responsibilities of the Senior Buyer
- Review RFQ sent from Purchasing Specialist and enter the necessary information.
- Identify and select suppliers for commodities meeting criteria such as price, quality, and delivery.
- Analyze and evaluate quotes received from suppliers based on the drawings/data and prepare quote evaluation and comparison sheets.
- Negotiate costs with suppliers using detailed price breakdown and quote evaluation.
- Issue Award Letters and process blanket POs for production parts. Revise and update BPO’s as required.
- Process requisition and spot buy PO for tooling and check fixture.
- Conduct annual price reduction (APR) activities.
- Resolve quality and delivery issues between related departments and suppliers.
- Propose VA/VE ideas and interface with related departments on implementation of proposed ideas.
- Manage working relationships with suppliers and develop new suppliers.
- Audit suppliers with the QA team.
- Generate purchasing reports including monthly saving reports and semi-annual minority supplier reports
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Experience, Skills & Abilities of the Senior Buyer
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Purchasing or Supply Chain experience is required. An engineering or Business degree is also a plus.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience as a buyer in automotive or manufacturing, similar industries. Experience with Japanese automotive manufactures is helpful.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills including the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Computer knowledge including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, or equivalent.
- Ability to travel as required (overnight & outside of U.S.)
- Ability to work beyond normal working hours as necessary.
